Executive Council Member
James has been in the industry for 18 years, 13 of them in his own company, JCL Asphalt. He has experienced a lot, from recession, through to rapid growth, through earthquakes and the high demand for rebuild work in Canterbury.
He employs 65 staff and completes surfacing works for many well-known Canterbury contractors, local authorities and private clients. JCL Asphalt prides itself on a very high standard of quality with all their finished surfaces, along with pride taken in their fleet and its presentation. This was recognised in the 2014 CCNZ Canterbury Awards where JCL Asphalt won two awards - Company Image Award and Outstanding Service Award.
James had been involved with the Canterbury Executive Committee for ten years when he felt it was time to step up to the National Executive Council to make sure Canterbury and SMEs alike have a voice. He is now doing a second two-year term on the Executive Council. He is very passionate about the industry and feels with the experience he have gained at a local level he will be able to add value to the National Executive and ensure that there is a strong link between his local members and the issues that are being dealt with around the country.
