Working and living in a family-owned business has given Bailey a good grounding and understanding of the civil construction industry and the legislative changes we all continually face. Bailey is now the Director of Gair Contracting, a Hawkes Bay-based company, specialising in civil and forestry bulk earthworks. They are a small-to-medium-sized family business which employs 25 full-time staff. The business was set up by her parents 37 years ago and Bailey has been working with the family for the last 12 years.
Bailey had three terms as Chair of the Hawkes Bay Branch of CCNZ, after starting as a committee member in 2009.
Bailey would like to help the civil contracting industry become more appealing to our younger generations. She believes that a positive step towards diversity is having younger people of both sexes visibly representing the industry to show that it is an industry for everyone. We need to keep evolving our approach to raise the image of civil contracting so that we can continue to attract and retain talented people. Being a woman in the contracting industry, Bailey believes gives her the opportunity to offer another perspective to help attract more young women into the industry.
